A positive approach is needed for the development of West Bengal; only then can the brain drain be stopped?

Nanda Dulal Bhattacharya, Haqiquat News, Kolkata: Brain drain is a very common term in today’s modern world. This type of emigration occurs from almost every country in the world, mainly from developing or underdeveloped countries. This brain drain from our West Bengal continues even today. Due to brain drain, the state loses its ability to further develop. Talented boys and girls are born, raised and educated in the state; But when it comes time for higher education or work, they leave the state or country to seek jobs in developed states or countries. The question is, why highly educated and most intelligent boys and girls are choosing to leave the state and go elsewhere? There is a need to analyze the reasons in depth. Our policy makers have to look very seriously otherwise our state will pay a very heavy price in the long run. Our policy makers need to realize that the progress of the state depends on the balance of the economy, all the resources of the state, including the educated workforce. Without this balance it is not possible to move an economy forward. Due to brain drain states and countries, industrial organizations lose a core of talented people. Brain drain does not have immediate harmful consequences; Rather, there are significant economic impacts in the long run. We should work more actively to retain highly educated talent to remain competitive in our global economy. For example, if the best talented doctors, teachers, engineers, researchers of the state go elsewhere, it becomes difficult for new medical students or students to get the best education and the entire state will turn into a low talent pool, which will have a deep negative impact on very core of the society effecting education, healthcare, infrastructure development. To sustain and advance the current pace of development in our state, our policymakers need to move quickly from brain drain to brain gain policies. Once Bengali art, economy and culture were at the peak. Today as Bengal has fallen behind, the glory of Kolkata has also sunk. The transport system of Kolkata is much better than that of Pune and Bangalore. In terms of law and order our Bengal stands very well. Kolkata plays a very important role among the eastern states of India and Kolkata is the only city in eastern India which has all kinds of industrial infrastructure. Be it education or medical facilities, Kolkata is the biggest hope for the people of Eastern India. After all, Kolkata is still far ahead in terms of art and culture. Despite all this, the main reason for the backwardness of Kolkata or Bengal is the inability to bring investment in industry. In the last ten years, the industrialization of the state has not been done in that proportion, even though millions of crores of rupees have been proposed to be invested on the stage of the industrial conference but the question remains about real investment? it is not only about bringing in investment, the government also has to create a favourable environment for industrialization. This includes infrastructure works like roads, electricity, and goodwill towards investors. Labour cost in this state is very low. The salary that is available for the same work in other states is half of that in this state. It means that not only investment in the industry is needed, but also a positive approach is needed. Favourable infrastructure for the industry should be developed, attention should be paid to match the appropriate price of labour. Just as specific plans are needed for industrialization, so also specific outlines are needed for the development of Kolkata, then only Tilottama Kolkata can bring the ‘real positive change’ for Bengal.
TAGLINE: Development, of West Bengal requires a positive approach. Then only brain drain could be stopped.
